Sandy Emergency Housing Response

housing planning & policy

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in 2012, Project Urbanista worked with El Centro del Inmigrante in Staten Island to develop an Emergency Housing Relief Program for displaced immigrant victims of Sandy.  Our program invited FEMA into the community allowing them to register hundreds of vulnerable and hard to reach immigrant families. El Centro distributed nearly $100,000 in emergency rent support and household items to more than fifty undocumented and mixed-status families, many of whom did not qualify for federal emergency assistance.
